1David Trawick, Senior Pastor
Birthplace: Germany (My dad was in the Army at the time) but I’ve called San Antonio home since first grade.
Family: Married for 36 years to Jill; Two daughters, both grown and working (yea!)
Hobbies: Hunting, fishing, target shooting (archery and firearms), reading.
Education: Bachelor’s in Social Science, Southwestern University, Georgetown, TX; Master’s of Divinity, Iliff School of Theology, Denver, CO; Doctor of Ministry, Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, KY(No, they don’t call me “Doctor Trawick.” I won’t let them.).
Why I’m in the ministry: As a young adult I came to faith in Christ and my life received new meaning, purpose, and value. I grew up in a good church and learned plenty of Bible stories, but somehow managed to miss the real meaning of Jesus. I want others to know the wonder of the good news of Jesus and experience the difference he makes. I try to preach and teach in a way that anyone can understand. I want to build a church where it’s hard to miss the truth.
Greatest joys in ministry: Praying with someone as they receive Christ into their life, watching “the lights come on” as church goers become Christ-followers, Seeing members become ministers and some even become paid staff. So many great people and good friends. Playing trumpet in the worship band.
2Mike Turner, Worship Minister
Well my name is Mike T. and after 29 years of searching for God, He helped me find Jesus. I fell in love and discovered a real living relationship with the God of all creation. WOW! In the process I met my beautiful wife and together we have three grown children, four rowdy (perfect) grandkids, a wonderful daughter-in-law, a great son-in-law, an assortment of friends, dogs, and grand-dogs; and together we are living this crazy life we call Christianity!
After 15 years of youth ministry and almost 10 years of leading worship in the church I’m still not perfect and still learning. I still struggle and God still shows me the way. Most of all He continually reminds me that He loves me!
What do I like to do? I love to do anything outside, hanging out with my family, barbecuing and don’t forget eating Mexican food!!! And most of all, I love to play guitar and tell people about Jesus!
Be God’s!
Mike T
3Jeremiah Carnes, Young Adult Minister
work: 210-681-3751
My name is Jeremiah Carnes. I was born in the Texas Panhandle and have bounced around all over the state, all over the country, and all over the world. My wife, Sheryl, and I have been married for 13 years, and we have three pretty cool young kids together! I spent four years in the Marine Corps and a total of 20 years as a mechanic, but God had some very different ideas about me for my occupation. Several years ago I began feeling a calling to ministry, and God has now opened that door for me here at Northwest Hills. I have a great passion for the word of God and for teaching it to others. I’m absolutely thrilled to have this chance to reach out to others and share the love of Jesus!
Outside of church, you can find me busy doing anything that involves getting my hands dirty: working on engines, remodeling my house, landscaping, just to name a few. I love to read and write, or just spend time with my family.
I look forward to serving and growing together with you in Christ.
4Chris Baxter, Youth Minister
Chris Baxter has previously worked at St. Matthew’s UMC and Windcrest UMC. He is married to Marie and they have two boys born on the same day, 5 years apart. Before becoming a United Methodist youth director, he was a house parent with his wife at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in the Texas panhandle. They spent six years at the group home facility serving as parental units for up to 14 teenage boys in a home setting.
He was a sports writer at the Ventura County Star in southern California for four years in the early 1990s where he covered professional and high school sports. He was born and raised in Tulsa, OK where he developed a love for things crimson and hatred for things burnt orange. (Read that: OU and Texas.)
He loves talking about Jesus with youth, adults, children, whoever and loves reading God’s Word. He also loves playing sports and watching the Sooners, Steelers, Yankees and Spurs.
5Natalie Long, Children’s Minister
work: (210) 681-3751
God has allowed me to be in ministry sharing the love of Christ with children and youth for the last six years. I spent a few years in Austin at Lake Hills church working with high school girls. I was also blessed to be able to serve high school girls here at Northwest Hills. I taught in public education for eight years. I loved the time I spent in public schools and was always blessed to have the most precious children and families in my classes. I feel so fortunate now that God has given me the opportunities to not only spend my time with children but also to teach them about God’s great love for them!
Jeff and I have been married for nearly four years. Jeff, has been working for the San Antonio Missions Baseball Club for the last 21 years and has loved every minute of it! We also have three dogs and a cat that keep us busy and well exercised, especially Sunshine, our yellow Labrador. When I am not serving children or my family, I can be found hand stamping cards and other crafty projects, gardening, jogging, organizing something or dancing ballet!
